South Carolina Tax Council

The South Carolina Tax Council was founded in 1976 as a non-profit (501-c-3) association. Membership is open to tax preparers with offices located in South Carolina. Preparers may practice at whatever level they choose; be it CPA, PA, AP, Enrolled Agent, or Commercial Preparer. They may maintain membership in other professional organizations. Preparers may diversify into other tax related services such as, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing, financial planning, insurance services, mortgage brokering, etc.

Members are required to obtain 24 class room hours of continuing professional education (CPE) each year. They must be in good standing with all federal and state taxing authorities. The public can be assured that a member of the South Carolina Tax Council is an experienced, qualified preparer who is expanding his knowledge every year. To find a preparer in your area see

The main objective of the association is to provide quality CPE to tax preparers at a reasonable cost. This is accomplished by holding two seminars each year (June and October). See "Seminar Registration" to register now. A variety of speakers is used to bring the latest, expert information from their respective fields. Representatives from all federal and state taxing authorities are regular participants. Some past topics have been: New Tax Law Update, Social Security Issues, Estate Planning, Retirement Planning, The Internet, Windows, Probate Issues, Auditing and Accounting Issues, etc. The seminars also provide an opportunity to meet and discuss specific problems with other South Carolina preparers. Several scholarships are given each year in $500 and $1,000 increments to accounting students attending South Carolina Colleges, Universities, Junior Colleges, or Technical Colleges. See "Scholarship Application" to apply.
